Guests attended the American Heart Association’s Navy Yard Goes Red event last night, hosted by FS Investments at the company’s Philadelphia Navy Yard headquarters for the fourth year in a row.

The event raised funds for the American Heart Association’s national Go Red for Women initiative, an effort that advocates for more research and swifter action for women’s heart health through coordinated educational programming, fundraising and events. While more commonly associated with men, heart disease is the number one killer of women, causing one in three deaths each year (approximately one woman every minute). A collection of Navy Yard businesses came together to support the effort as sponsors, including FS Investments, PIDC, Jefferson Health, Penn State at the Navy Yard, and the Navy Yard Courtyard Marriott.

This year’s Navy Yard Goes Red event featured female leaders from across the greater Philadelphia area, including Go Red for Women Heart Champion Riti Patel, MD, FACC; Jefferson cardiologist Andria Jones, DO; and fitness instructor and heart attack survivor Alanna Gardner.

Participants shared pointers on living a heart-healthy lifestyle through nutrition, stress management, fitness and mindset. The event helped raise awareness about the importance of women’s heart health, while also serving as an impactful networking opportunity for attendees. Vetri Community Partnership’s Mobile Teaching Kitchen was also onsite, showcasing its work in the Philadelphia community and how nutrition impacts heart health.
