“If I had asked people what they wanted, they would have said faster horses.” – Henry Ford

The traditional way of investing is no longer adequate for investors to achieve their goals. Experts, including our own, suggest that trend will continue. Markets are correlated, interest rates will likely remain low for some time, and there is a heightened need for income. In this “new normal,” a faster horse will not get us where we want to go. The investment industry must adapt and evolve.

An evolution involves a series of many moments, big and small. Every day at our firm, we live by the mantra of “never settle.” We make small changes, monitoring the markets and our portfolios to make the most of opportunities as they present themselves. That is our day-to-day business.

And then there are the big moments, inflection points where a noticeable and substantial change happens. Attending my daughter’s graduation ceremony in June reminded me of the significance of those moments. They mark the start of a new chapter, yet build the future on a strong, existing foundation.

We are experiencing a big moment as we evolve our name from ‘Franklin Square’ to ‘FS Investments.’ FS Investments will build on the foundation that made us a leader in alternatives and marks the progression towards our next chapter. This next chapter includes a broader vision of creating new alternative solutions – to move investing forward and help investors progress and achieve more. In "The New Normal," it is no longer about a faster horse; it is about the reinvention – and redesign – of the traditional investment portfolio.

Why change?

FS Investments is evolving. We will offer more alternative solutions across the spectrum of investment strategies, more education, insight and perspectives. We will make alternative education accessible to advisors and investors so they can make informed decisions on how alternatives can help achieve their goals. Our new brand – and name – reflects our goal to simplify the complex while providing a different perspective on investing. All of our solutions will meet the high standards we set for transparency and other best practices designed to put investors’ interests first.

A faster horse or better design?

Our industry does not need a faster horse. It needs a new approach, better portfolio construction and thoughtfully designed alternative options that can help investors build better portfolios.
